Monumental WMATA Canopy Sites

Lourie Architects LLC worked with the National Park Service and WMATA to adapt the prototypical canopy design to monumental sites of the Nation’s Capital.

These prominent sites include:

• Smithsonian North at the National Mall

• Arlington National Cemetery along Memorial Avenue

• Archives at the US Navy Memorial/ Pennsylvania Avenue

• Judiciary Square North at the National Building Museum and the National Law Enforcement Memorial

• U Street East at the African American Civil War Memorial

Lourie Architects LLC refined and adjusted the prototypical canopy design to meet each site’s unique challenges and the review requirements of the United States Fine Arts Commission and National Capital Planning Commission.
